5 smokin’ festivals to round out your summer
The warmer months are winding down. How better to say sayonara to summer than finding the perfect music festival? These five have awesome bands, picturesque locations and vibes worth traveling for.
Location: San Francisco, CA
Dates: August 9 – 11
Sure, it’s a bit mainstream. Any music festival with blink-182 on the ticket isn’t your mom ‘n pop party. But Outside Lands has grown into such a music mecca, we can’t help but include it here. If you’re a San Francisco local, lucky you. If not, there’s never been a better time to travel. From Paul Simon to Lil Wayne, there’s something for everyone. But if you’re looking for us, we’ll be rocking out to Childish Gambino.
Life is Beautiful
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Dates: September 20 – 22
Sure, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But an line up of Post Malone, Chance the Rapper, The Black Keys, Billie Eilish and more will stay with you forever. If music isn’t your thing, don’t despair. There’s a brag-worthy culinary component, featuring fares from regional restaurants and noteworthy chefs and mixologists. There’s also a comedy circuit, featuring our favorite Queen of Queer eye, Jonathan Van Ness.
Jazz Aspen Snowmass
Location: Aspen, CO
Dates: August 30 – September 1
As we speak, tickets to this Colorado classic are selling out at a rapid speed. And we’re not surprised. General admission for John Mayer was the first to go, with Luke Combs, ZZ Ward and Denver quartet Wildermiss quickly following suit. But you can still saddle up to Sting or Weezer, plus tons of other cool bands. While all the bands are not jazz-focused per se, expect a mellow artsy vibe filled with mountain scenes and unrivaled soul.
Location: Happy Valley, OR
Dates: August 2 – 4
What started as a bustle of bluegrass enthusiasts on a small farm has slowly evolved into a 3-day folk and indie experience, focused on preserving our great Mother Earth. Enjoy soulful tunes from Phil Lesh, Nathaniel Rateliff, Khruangbin and more, while noshing on food provided by local chefs and food carts. If you decide to make the trip, join the Pickathon Square Dance on opening day. This annual tradition is a dance party you won’t want to miss.
Location: San Diego, CA
Dates: September 13 – 15
Yep, we’re biased. With a home base of San Diego, CA, the Rob Rodney team loves them some Kaaboo. And this year’s line-up has us wanting the full three days. Headliners are Kings of Leon, Dave Matthews Band and Mumford & Sons, but we’re feeling the classics – from Duran Duran to REO Speedwagon to The Bangles. Plus, there’s a comedy stage with big names like Kevin Smith and Bob Saget. So join us, we’ll save a spot in the sun for you.
