Got fine lines? There’s a CBD oil for that.
Bella Camellia is passionate about skincare. Her Instagram account is peppered with inspirational beauty quotes, from “Glowing skin is always in” to “Good things come to those who remove their makeup before bed.”
As an LA-based aesthetician, Bella knows a thing or two about achieving smooth, bright skin – despite age, toxins and in her case, the strong California sun. She creates skincare routines that help clean, tone and moisturize all skin types. And lately, many of these routines include CBD.
“CBD is extremely beneficial for your skin,” she says. “It is really high in antioxidants, which helps with aging. It is also anti-inflammatory, which helps skin with acne, psoriasis or eczema.”
Bella decided to introduce CBD to her client base when she saw how it benefited her own skin. On a constant quest to keep her skin hydrated, she loved the moisture CBD offered her. “My skin is a lot smoother and my lines are softer,” she says. “I can also get inflammation caused by the sun, so when it gets irritated, CBD oils helps calm it down.”
For clients hoping to add CBD to their skincare routine, Bella has them start simple. She suggests a good quality cleanser, toner and moisturizer – always layered with sunscreen of SPF 30+. As her clients start seeing the benefits of CBD, she suggests they up the ante by finding a targeted serum – since serum penetrates deeper than moisturizer. Her routine suggestions go like this:
Morning: Cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, sunscreen.
Evening: Oil cleanser, cleanser, toner, targeted serum, eye cream, Retinol, night cream.
Choosing specific products is personal, but Bella does suggest taking a good look at ingredients before diving into a CBD skin product. “If your skin is pretty tolerant, you probably won’t have issues,” she says. “But if you have a tendency to break out, skip the product if it contains coconut oil – which is common in CBD oils. Coconut oil is highly comedogenic, and can cause acne.”
Specifically, Bella recommends a product by Lord Jones, called “Royal Oil”. The multi-purpose CBD oil is grape seed oil-based, which is far less comedogenic than its coconut counterpart. This makes it milder, and better for all skin types.
But other than oil content, Bella’s main recommendation is simply to focus on quality. “Good, natural, organic ingredients can help your skin heal and glow. Skipping harsh chemicals and choosing high-quality products can make all the difference.”
